Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how nslookup.net ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use our free DNS and network tools. We are committed to minimizing data collection and protecting your privacy.

1. Information we collect

Query inputs. When you use a tool, we record a SHA-256 hash of the query input (domain, IP address, or URL) together with the tool used, the result record type, and a SHA-256 hash of your IP address. Raw query strings and IP addresses are never stored in plain text.

Server logs. Our hosting provider automatically logs standard HTTP request metadata (anonymised IP, HTTP method, path, status code, referrer, user agent). These logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.

Session cookie. A single session cookie (named __nsid) is set for CSRF protection. It contains no personal information and expires at the end of your browser session.

2. Information we do not collect

We do not require registration, collect names or email addresses, use third-party advertising trackers, or sell data to third parties.

3. How we use information

Query logs are used solely to enforce per-tool rate limits, detect abuse, and produce aggregated (non-identifying) usage statistics. Hashed IP addresses are used for rate limiting and abuse prevention only and are never used to identify individuals.

4. Third-party services

DNS queries are resolved via Google Public DNS (privacy policy), Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 (privacy policy), and Quad9 (privacy policy). These services may receive the domain names you look up in accordance with their own privacy policies.

5. Data retention

Hashed query logs are retained for a maximum of 90 days and then purged automatically. Cache entries are evicted after the TTL defined per record type (typically 5 minutes to 24 hours).

6. Your rights

Because we store only hashed representations of inputs (not plain-text domains or IPs), it is not technically possible for us to identify and retrieve data belonging to a specific individual. If you have questions or concerns, please use the contact form.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
